Does Silenz record or store audio?
No. Silenz processes microphone input in real-time to detect speech and ambient sound, but nothing is ever recorded, saved to disk, or sent anywhere. All audio analysis happens locally on your Mac and is discarded immediately.
Which media apps are supported by Silenz?
Currently Silenz can control Apple Music, Apple TV, Spotify, VOX, Radium, Audirvana, Swinsian, Decibel, Downcast, Broadcasts, Doppler and VLC desktop apps.
What macOS versions does Silenz support?
Silenz requires macOS 11 Big Sur or later and runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Does Silenz work with AirPods and other Bluetooth headphones?
Yes — Silenz works with AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and any other Bluetooth headphones. However, Bluetooth can only handle high-quality audio in one direction at a time. If you use the headphones' built-in microphone for Silenz, audio quality may drop. The fix is simple: open Silenz preferences and set the Input Device to your Mac's built-in microphone (or any other wired mic) instead.
When I'm using a Bluetooth headphone microphone the sound is distorted. How can I fix it?
This is a Bluetooth bandwidth limitation — it cannot deliver high-quality audio input and output simultaneously. To fix it, open Silenz → Preferences and switch the Input Device to your Mac's built-in microphone or another wired microphone.
